Call for Graphic Designer
Call for Graphic Designer - Help us create the 4th Issue of the 6 ISLANDS zine!
Hi community! We are looking for a graphic designer to help us in create/design the upcoming issue of the zine 'Myths, Myth-Making, and Mythological Imaginations'.
ABOUT THE ZINE AND THE THEME:
The upcoming zine will explore the rich and diverse mythologies of the Caribbean, from spiritual tales and folklore to contemporary mythmaking. We’re inviting contributions that celebrate and critique these myths—whether they’re rooted in our collective past or created in the present. As a designer, your role will be to bring this collection of stories, essays, artwork, and more into a cohesive visual form that reflects the spirit and depth of these narratives. The end result will be a published work as a physicical zine and in digital form.
HOW WE WORK:
6 ISLANDS is a collaborative collective that values open communication and creative input from all team members. This project will be a space where your ideas are integral to the design process, and we’re excited to work closely with you to shape the look of the zine. We’ll be meeting regularly to review progress and discuss the direction of the project, and we'll also be available for feedback and support as we work through different stages.
MUTUAL EXPECTATIONS:
We’re looking for a designer who can dedicate time from March to May (with an introductory meeting in February) to work on the zine. This will include regular meetings every few weeks to discuss progress, share feedback, and refine the design. We’ll also work through revisions together, and we may schedule additional feedback sessions if necessary to refine the design after a test print. The zine will be around 80 pages, with a mix of pre-designed and to-be-designed submissions, plus intro pages and other key sections. You’ll need to be comfortable using InDesign and Photoshop to bring it all together into a cohesive final piece.
WHAT WE OFFER:
We offer a set fee for your design work (more details will be shared during the introductory meeting). Aside from the paid job, this is a beautiful moment to collaborate with us on a meaningful project that celebrates Caribbean culture and storytelling. The work you do is reflected in the published zine, which will be shared with our community and beyond, contributing to a larger conversation about the Caribbean.
HOW TO APPLY:
If you're interested, please fill out the form below to tell us about your motivation, experience, and skills. Please also share your portfolio with us so we can get a sense of your design style. If selected, we’ll schedule a call to discuss the details and ensure we’re all on the same page about expectations and timelines.
We’re excited to see how your creativity can help bring our community’s stories to life!
Love,
Alexine, Danick & Ichmarah
