Join us to read and discuss ‘Amen cu Sanger’. Written by Aruban author Joshuar Gomez, ‘Amen cu Sanger’ is the first novel in Papiamento that centralizes homosexuality. For Joshuar, writing this book came from the necessity to write a relatable story that deals with sexuality while at the same time breaking barriers of what is comfortable in Aruban (literary) culture.⁣⁣

The virtual event will consist of a short presentation by Joshuar - where he will share about his journey to writing and publishing ‘Amen cu Sanger’. This will be followed by a book-club-style discussion, where readers are encouraged to share their experience reading the novel. The event will end with a question & answer session with Joshuar, where readers can pose any questions they have.

In this intimate and safe space, we will be exploring sensitive issues around identity, belonging, sexuality, abuse, and what these mean in a Caribbean context. It is important to us that everyone is able to express themselves freely during, so everyone is encouraged to communicate in the language they feel comfortable in, with Papiamentu/o as a baseline.⁣
