On Sunday July 19, Caribbean Ancestry Club x 6(ISLA)(NDS) zine are hosting a closed gathering where we as ABCSSS communities can come together to heal and grieve/mourn from what’s been happening in the world – both internationally (COVID-19 pandemic, Black Lives Matter movement and protests), locally on the islands and in the Caribbean diaspora here in the Netherlands. This will be a space where we can have conversations about how these circumstances are related to our communities. The focus will be on aftercare and holding space for each other's experiences.
We will be doing this through talking, writing, and a small yoga/stretching and dancing class.

NB: While taking these classes we will obviously follow the corona regulations by keeping 1.5m distance from each other, wear masks, and practice good hygiene by washing/disinfecting our hands and refrain from touching objects at the venue. Due to corona regulations we will have two closed sessions with a maximum of 30 participants per session. Session I will be from 16:00-18:00 and Session II will be from 19:00-21:00. Both sessions are identical, so please only sign-up for one session to give other people the chance of attending too. After signing up via the Google Form, you will receive a ticket link and password to claim your FREE ticket to one of the sessions.

This space will be for us by us and will be centering voices of black people and people of colour (people of African and/or indigenous heritage and descent) within ABCSSS communities.

Caribbean Ancestry Club is a project born out of love for the Caribbean, by Alfrida Martis and Daudi Cijntje. Alfrida calls Bonaire home, and Daudi calls Curaçao home. They are proud of their Afro-Caribbean heritage and believe in the healing and restorative powers of love and communion. By organizing events and community gatherings they wish to unite and amplify voices of Afro-indigenous Caribbean peoples, especially islanders from Bonaire, Statia, Saba, Curaçao, Aruba and St. Maarten. Caribbean Ancestry Club is a space where Caribbean peoples can fully be themselves, exchange their experiences on island and diaspora life, colonialism, intergenerational traumas, activism, cultural rituals and practices, art, ancestral knowledge and family memories.
